About The Position

The GSE Mechanic maintains aircraft powered and non-powered ground support equipment in an effective and safe manner acceptable to the Government. This role involves reporting to the Back Shop Maintenance Team Lead and utilizing NASA’s Automated Maintenance Data System (NAMIS) for equipment records and maintenance documentation. The mechanic will also maintain external fuel and grounding systems, perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE, and conduct daily inspections, testing, and operation of GSE to determine serviceability and proper function, including diesel, gasoline, and turbine engine powered equipment. Responsibilities include servicing equipment with various fluids and air, disassembling and assembling malfunctioning GSE accessories and components, and removing, disassembling, repairing, cleaning, treating for corrosion, assembling, and reinstalling GSE components and accessories. The role also involves stenciling and marking GSE according to technical publications, proper storage, handling, labeling, and disposal of materials, and practicing good housekeeping, tool control, and Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention. Additional duties may include working with repair and test equipment such as welders, torches, pressure testers, and electrical testers, and preparing GSE for storage and transportation. The mechanic may perform Designated System Inspector (DSI) duties and should be proficient in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various aviation ground support equipment. This includes providing aircraft ground support duties like towing, marshalling, and jacking aircraft, and assisting with aircraft maintenance inspections and repairs as needed.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in aviation ground support equipment powered and non-powered.
• Proficient in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of aviation ground support equipment such as mobile electric lifts, hydraulic service carts, aircraft fueling equipment and vehicles, electrical ground power units, pneumatic supply units, and other aircraft servicing equipment including oxygen service equipment, potable water and lavatory service equipment.
• Experience supporting a NASA/DoD contract.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
• Beginner to intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.
• Must possess effective oral and technical written communication skills to clearly communicate information to others.
• Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
• Ability to follow a process.
• Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
• Strong decision analysis and problem solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions.
• Must be able to communicate issues to management.

Nice To Haves

• FAA A&P Certificate Desired.

Responsibilities

• Maintain aircraft powered and non-powered ground support equipment.
• Use NASA’s Automated Maintenance Data System (NAMIS) to maintain equipment records, document maintenance actions, and maintain external fuel and grounding systems.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE.
• Inspect, test, and operate GSE daily to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation (Diesel, Gasoline and Turbine Engine powered).
• Service equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air.
• Disassemble and assemble malfunctioning GSE accessories and components.
• Remove, disassemble, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall GSE components and accessories.
• Stencil and mark GSE in accordance with technical publications.
• Store, handle, label, and use materials properly.
• Dispose of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
• Practice good housekeeping, tool control, and Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention in accordance with company and NASA policies and procedures.
• Work with a variety of repair and test equipment including welders, torches, pressure testers and electrical testers.
• Prepare GSE for storage and transportation in support of research program deployment activities.
• Perform Designated System Inspector (DSI) duties.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair aviation ground support equipment such as mobile electric lifts, hydraulic service carts, aircraft fueling equipment and vehicles, electrical ground power units, pneumatic supply units, and other aircraft servicing equipment including oxygen service equipment, potable water and lavatory service equipment.
• Provide aircraft ground support duties, including towing, marshalling and jacking aircraft.
• Assist with aircraft maintenance inspections and repairs as required.
• May be assigned Crew Lead duties per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
