In the course of a year, we provide more than 3,000 children, ages 6 weeks through Pre-K with high-quality literacy and STEAM-infused learning; give 58,000 youth and teens access to sports, aquatics, day and resident camps, teen leadership development programs, and employment opportunities; provide over 200,000 members with programs, services, and facilities to enjoy connection and maintain wellness regardless of age; and engage over 25,000 volunteers and donors from across Atlanta to share in the gift of supporting their communities. NATURE AND SCOPE: Under the direction of the Chief Experience Officer, the Group Vice President will be responsible for providing leadership to a specific group of branches and is responsible for their strategic direction and success. The Group Vice President will ensure the branches are successful in achieving the YMCA mission and will provide directions in staff development, financial development, program alignment, and general operations. They will also develop collaborative projects in the community in cooperation with public and private agents. Special emphasis will be given to development and implementation of program thrusts across their branches, as well as across the Association. The Group Vice President is responsible for the successful operation of their branch (Northwest YMCA) regarding the overall service delivery systems, customer service, fiscal management, child safety, supervision of designated staff, program quality, development and delivery as well as enhancing the Association’s delivery ad capacity as a mission-driven organization to meet objectives.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree or other advanced degree
  • 8+ years of successful, progressive professional and administrative experience with the YMCA of similar non-profit organization and an understanding of the philosophy and nature of the YMCA
  • 4+ years of direct people management
  • A strong commitment to the YMCA mission
  • good maturity and judgment
  • strong human relations skills and exceptional competence and experience in complex problem-solving, program and financial administration, marketing, strategic planning, group work and community organizations/issues and Experience in supervision and coaching of staff and volunteers
  • Must have the ability to move into various situations with ease and be able to develop and foster good working relationships with a variety of private and public agencies on special projects
  • Ability capable of understanding, interpreting, and disseminating new developments and trends in the YMCA program field
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check including Criminal Record check, Drug Screening, motor vehicle record (MVR) and reference check according to company policy.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Operations, Management, or related field
  • 10+ years of successful, progressive professional and administrative experience with the YMCA of similar non-profit organization and an understanding of the philosophy and nature of the YMCA
  • 6+ years of direct people management
  • A proven track record with progressive growth in the YMCA with a broad knowledge of program and membership services

Responsibilities

  • Represent and promote the YMCA in the local community and develop working relationships with other businesses, organizations, and governmental entities.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies in the service delivery area.
  • Recruit and select professional staff.
  • Supervise and appraise the work of professional staff and provide opportunities for leadership development, establish performance standards, and conduct thoughtful performance appraisals.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the branches’ operating budgets and meet budget targets.
  • Exercise necessary controls to ensure operations are carried out and a balanced fiscal operation exists.
  • Ensure that staff within the branches can develop their professional skill set to thrive in their current role and be prepared for their next career step, while encouraging a culture of health and well-being for all staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure that processes and systems in the branches meet Association standards and promote on-going member interaction through personnel and leadership activities.
  • Collaborate and convene community groups that will further develop Youth Development, health & Well-being, and Social Responsibility by strategic involvement in the community to ensure a positive profile for the Y.
  • Assist in the recruitment of volunteer leadership and engage them in a manner that maximizes the high-caliber volunteers’ time, talent, and treasure in each branch.
  • Ensure that the Association strategies and initiatives are employed to make certain that members and program participants achieve their goals.
  • Lead a year-round endeavor of volunteer engagement with culminates in a successful “Why It Matters” Annual Campaign and Capital Campaign efforts as necessary that enables the Association to fund Membership for all programs and initiatives.
  • Articulate a clear vision for the mission and goals of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta which inspire and engage internal constituents and the external community.
  • Ensure the utmost quality in membership, programs, facility, and grounds.
  • Branches which report to the respective Group Vice President must also meet critical numbers in program, membership, annual campaign, and budget.
  • A strong Branch Advisory Board and a strong staff team must be established and maintained in each branch.
  • Serve as a member of the assigned committees and/or lead the work of a cabinet as needed.
  • Champion and integrate the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility in all aspects of membership and programs.
