About The Position

The Group Teacher, under the supervision of the Coordinator of Child Care, will provide support to child care staff in addition to aiding and teaching children in need of educational direction. This role involves working within the guidelines of AAPCI, adhering to center schedules, and following established personnel policies. The Group Teacher is responsible for the development of lesson plans, child care activities, monitoring children’s health, maintaining attendance, and overseeing the general activities of the child care rooms.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree or 60 college credits
  • Certification in: ‘New York State Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills Certification, ATAS 095
  • At least three (3) years of work experience in a pre-school, infant and toddler program
  • Food Safety Certification

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the planning and execution of a program to provide developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans to the Coordinator of Child Care.
  • Ensure equipment and materials are accessible and in good condition for constructive use by children.
  • Remove and/or report any damaged or hazardous equipment to the Coordinator of Child Care or maintenance.
  • Plan and supervise the arrangement of classroom furniture to promote optimal program functioning.
  • Share in the overall planning for the best use of shared space relative to the program size.
  • Plan the use of community resources to enrich the educational content of the children's program.
  • Develop a program of sound educational goals appropriate to the age and developmental level of the children.
  • Assist and support the Coordinator of Child Care in the professional growth and development of classroom associates.
  • Attend all mandatory training sessions in the field of early childhood education.
  • Develop and implement a plan for sharing information about the child(ren) and the program with parents.
  • Attend and participate in group parent meetings.
  • Respect the confidential nature of all information about parents and children.
  • Act respectfully and professionally in all interactions with parents and children.
  • Maintain good work relationships and objectivity with other staff members.
  • Prepare nutritious breakfast, lunch & snacks in accordance with USDA guidelines.
  • Follow recipes, menu, and portion controls.
  • Ensure food is prepared in a sanitary and timely manner.
  • Clean, sanitize, and organize food products and utensils in the kitchen on a routine basis.
