About The Position

The Group Teacher, under the supervision of the Coordinator of Child Care, will provide support to child care staff in addition to aiding and teaching children in need of educational direction. This role involves working within the guidelines of the AAPCI and carrying out its functions, policies, and procedures, observing schedules, and adhering to established personnel policies and practices. The Group Teacher is responsible for the development of lesson plans, child care activities, monitoring children’s health, maintaining attendance, and the general activities of the child care rooms.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree or 60 college credits
  • Certification in: ‘New York State Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills Certification, ATAS 095
  • At least three (3) years of work experience in a pre-school, infant and toddler program
  • Food Safety Certification

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the planning and execution of a program to provide developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans to the Coordinator of Child Care.
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and material accessible and in good condition.
  • Responsible for removing and/or reporting any damaged or hazardous equipment.
  • Responsible for planning and supervising an appropriate arrangement of classroom furniture designed to promote optimal program functioning.
  • Shares in the overall planning for the best use of shared space relative to the size of the program.
  • Plans the use of community resources to enrich the educational content of the children's program.
  • Develops a program of sound educational goals, appropriate to the age and developmental level of the children.
  • Assist and supports the Coordinator of Child Care in the professional growth and development of classroom associates.
  • Attends all mandatory training sessions in the field of early childhood education.
  • Develops and implements an appropriate plan by which information concerning the child(ren) and the program can be shared with the parent.
  • Attends and participates in group parent meetings.
  • Respects the confidential nature of all information about parents and children.
  • Acts respectfully and professionally in all interactions with parents and children.
  • Maintains good work relationship and objectivity with other staff members.
  • Prepares nutritious breakfast, lunch & snacks in accordance to USDA guidelines.
  • Follows recipes, menu, and portion controls.
  • Ensures that food is prepared in a sanitary and timely manner.
  • Cleaning, sanitizing and the organization of food products and utensils in the kitchen on a routine basis.
  • Perform any other job-related duties.
