About The Position

Swim lesson Instructors are responsible for the coordination of all required materials, providing appropriate instruction, and ensuring the safety of participants in group swim lesson sessions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Prefer at least 6 months of experience in teaching swim lessons.
  • Experience working with adults, youth and children.
  • Working knowledge of general safety guidelines in an aquatic’s environment.
  • Good communication skills including interpersonal skills.
  • English proficiency required; Spanish language skills helpful.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Exceptional flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team.
  • Attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters
  • Strong independent judgement.
  • General computer knowledge is required to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Must pass all applicable background checks.
  • Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 30 days of hire as established by The Salvation Army.
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certifications from the American Red Cross .
  • Must be WSI certified.
  • Must be able to teach at least one session all year round.

Responsibilities

  • Provide superior instruction for clients to increase swim skills for classes within the scope of the training of the instructor.
  • Considerately and patiently enforce Kroc Center rules to provide a safe environment for all.
  • Provide exceptional quality service, leadership and mentoring to all guests in swim lessons – promoting a culture in which excellent customer hospitality thrives, all guests feel welcome, and events and programming are well attended.
  • Keep up-to-date documentation of all lesson plans and execution with progress reports as required.
  • Understand how to use and safely operate facilities, equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in the development, improvement and implementation of systems that safeguard any/all facilities, supplies and equipment related to aquatic programs, lessons and classes.
  • Keep daily maintenance records and statistics. Notify the Aquatics Center Manager or Aquatics Center Assistant Manager of the need for significant or immediate repair of equipment and replacing supplies.
  • Assure any emergency response follows TSA policy and clear and concise documentation is completed.
  • Attend all scheduled team meetings and staff meetings as directed by the Aquatics Center Manager or the Aquatics Center Assistant Manager.
  • Ensure all safety standards are met and maintain certifications performing all in service requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.
