The University of New England College of Dental Medicine’s (UNE CDM) predoctoral program uses an experiential curriculum that employs a group practice model. Each group practice within the comprehensive patient care clinic is overseen by a Group Practice Leader (GPL). The GPL is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the predoctoral group practice clinics, serving as a role model within the CDM community, and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of evidence-based patient care. This role involves supervising, educating, and mentoring students, continuously monitoring their professionalism, patient management, clinical skills assessments, and readiness for externship rotations. The GPL will collaborate with Patient Care Coordinators to manage patient assignments and ensure timely care, guiding students in developing evidence-based treatment plans and overseeing their progress towards on-time graduation. Additionally, the GPL will work with the Department Chair on quality improvement initiatives, monitor patient care outcomes, co-direct Patient Care courses, and contribute to faculty calibration within the predoctoral group practices. The role also includes assisting with licensure examination coordination, participating in college and university service, leading seminars, conducting student assessments, providing didactic and clinical education, supporting inter- and intra-professional curriculum initiatives, and advancing the college’s mission. The GPL is expected to participate in college activities, foster a sense of community and belonging, and perform other assigned duties.
