About The Position

Responsible for the management of an ABL portfolio through management of a Portfolio Manager team. Responsible for retention, renewal strategies, risk management strategies and being forefront in the exit/workout strategy of designated accounts. Manages up to 7 Portfolio Managers who each manage 13 or 14 accounts each. The level of work is considered executive in nature and supervisory. This position has direct reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in finance, accounting or business.
  • At least 20 years of experience in ABL, with extensive experience in liquidation, workouts, restructuring and client retention and contact.
  • Strong understanding of the legal environment underpinning ABL, including but not limited to, knowledge of contract law, the Uniform Commercial Code, and federal bankruptcy laws.
  • Strong knowledge of financial statement analytical and accounting skills.
  • Experience in understanding fine points in lending against various types of collateral.
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of large syndicated transactions both as an Agent and as a participant.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to communicate well to employees, clients and to others within the bank.
  • Knowledge of computer systems including Microsoft Office suite and proprietary software products used in support of the business.
  • Valid and current driver's license required for travel to meet with prospects and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Advising, reviewing, and assisting Portfolio Managers in managing their clients.
  • Developing and executing appropriate strategies for problem clients.
  • Implementing measurable goals for Portfolio Managers to ensure work is done timely, retention is met, credit losses are minimized, customer requests are addressed, client visits are done, and covenant violations are addressed, measured by performing periodic performance reviews.
  • Reviewing and advising Portfolio Managers to ensure quality write-ups, accurate risk ratings, field exam responses, and problem loan reports, providing initial approval of all credit requests before submission to the Head of ABL and the Bank's Credit Approval Department.
  • Advising on pricing strategies, covenants, waivers, amendments, forbearances, and overall credit structure to reduce risk to the bank while serving the client.
  • Assisting senior bank management and the Head of ABL with special requests.
  • Identifying negative trends early and strategizing best solutions for the bank through analysis of trend cards, review of credit write-ups, and watch asset reports.
  • Reviewing, approving, and presenting all watch assets to the bank’s risk team.
  • Developing and maintaining internal relationships following established processes and procedures, and serving as a senior point of contact for customer relationships.
  • Offering legal strategies and understanding legal ramifications of certain credit decisions or aspects of the loan relationship as an expert on the accounts and their legal and credit file.
  • Managing and training Portfolio Managers, developing new talent, and ensuring existing talent is utilized productively and continues to learn and develop further.
