About The Position

The Group Leader leads and supervises groups of elementary school participants during afterschool and summer programs under the guidance of an Activity Specialist or Content Specialist. This role supports academic enrichment, social-emotional development, and recreational activities in a safe, structured environment while collaborating with program leadership and school staff. Must be available to work during designated afterschool and/or summer program hours. Children’s Aid Mission: To help children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive support to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. Children’s Aid annually serves children and their families at over 40 sites in New York, as well as through three national program models. Children’s Aid is concentrating its efforts on creating cradle-through-college pathways in high-need neighborhoods, with a focus on children’s health, family stability, education, and social and emotional development. Requirements

  • Tier 1: High School Diploma or GED required and up to 2 years of experience working with children or youth.
  • Tier 2: College degree preferred and 2 or more years of experience working with children or youth.
  • Work well in teams and in collaboration with other organizations and entities.
  • Strong communication skills and well organized.
  • Experience in afterschool, camp, or school-based programs.
  • Must be available to work during designated afterschool and/or summer program hours.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and engage groups of 20–25 elementary school students.
  • Implement academic, enrichment, and recreational activities as directed.
  • Provide homework help and small-group academic support in reading and math and other instructional subjects.
  • Promote positive behavior and support social-emotional development.
  • Serve as a positive role model and maintain a safe, respectful environment.
  • Collaborate with other staff member and provide guidance on daily activities as needed.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise games, sports, arts, and special projects.
  • Supervise students during snack, transitions, and special activities.
  • Maintain attendance and basic participant documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with program staff and participate in meetings and trainings.
  • Ensure equipment and materials are properly used and returned.
  • Assist with program operations and special events as needed.
  • Fulfill mandated reporter responsibilities.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members in the program and schools.
  • Responsible for completing mandated trainings and ongoing professional development opportunities that foster a growth mindset.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
