This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant. YMCA Day Camp Group Leaders enjoy working in a fun, fast-paced environment facilitating activities and games for children ages 5 - 12. The role involves facilitating fun and creative activities and games, making a real difference in kids’ lives, and building valuable career experience toward a future in childhood education. The Group Leader will work effectively within a staff team to provide an inclusive environment of support, strategies, and resources for children with diverse needs to fully participate within the program. They will help build and contribute to a community environment of global supports and inclusion for all children through supporting their strengths and stretches. The role also involves helping children navigate conflict, role-modeling positive behaviours, contributing to the development, integration, and maintenance of care plans, and ensuring all campers are safe and supervised at all times. The individual will need to be ready to step in and assist any children requiring support to ensure their emotional, social, and physical needs are met, whether through supporting kids to transition, helping them to regulate or providing tools and strategies. Flexibility to float and support where needed is important, as is building relationships with the children attending camp. Training will be provided during summer training.
