About The Position

Group Leader Assistants are responsible for supporting the daily operations of the site by providing high quality and responsive care to children and families in an inclusive setting. The position supports meaningful, culturally relevant educational and recreational activities and positive relationships grounded in Y values.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years of age.
48 semester units or successful completion of the Instructional Aide (IA) exam.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and support children of all abilities.
Pre-employment health screening/TB and DOJ/FBI LiveScan clearances.
Pediatric First Aid and CPR, AED, Child Abuse Prevention and applicable safety trainings within required timelines.

Nice To Haves

Youth, classroom or child care experience preferred; paid and/or volunteer experience considered.

Responsibilities

Support active supervision of students at all times to promote physical and emotional safety.
Assist with developmentally appropriate, culturally relevant activities, curriculum, supplies and equipment.
Work cooperatively with staff to support program quality, safety, cleanliness and accident prevention.
Support individual growth, homework help and academic skill building while recognizing each child’s needs.
Maintain accurate attendance and required program records.
Support children’s health and well-being; provide first aid when necessary and promptly report incidents or injuries.
Use consistent, age-appropriate positive behavior guidelines and document notable situations according to policy.
Build and maintain positive communication—both verbal and non-verbal—with students, families, school personnel, district partners and Y staff.
Follow Y policies and applicable community partner policy requirements for the assigned site at all times.
Attend required staff meetings, trainings, program activities and special events.
Other duties as assigned.
