About The Position

Group Fitness Instructors are expected to teach safe and effective classes for our members and are required to maintain educational standards commensurate with Active Wellness quality. The role involves assisting members with exercise form, supporting their fitness goals, attending meetings and trainings, and maintaining a clean fitness environment. Instructors must conduct classes professionally and be able to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, squatting, and lifting. They are also responsible for the health and safety of others and administering emergency care if needed. Additionally, instructors should be knowledgeable about center programs, promote services, and assist with equipment upkeep.

Requirements

  • AA Degree preferred
  • 2 years Group Exercise experience preferred.
  • Current nationally recognized Group Fitness Certification or specialty class certificate, specialty class license (i.e. Zumba®, etc.).
  • Must be detail oriented, organized and highly responsive with a commitment to customer service
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Customer service skills

  • Ability to multitask
  • Commitment to the fitness industry
  • AED/CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Proof of citizenship or legal status

Nice To Haves

  • Cycle, Yoga and Pilates Mat experience are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach safe and effective group fitness classes for general and active aging populations, as well as for those with limited fitness experience.
  • Assist members in using safe and effective exercise form during their workouts.
  • Support, teach, and encourage members to meet their fitness goals.
  • Attend department meetings, complete mandated safety trainings, and continuing education classes to keep certifications current.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly fitness environment.
  • Conduct classes and activities in a professional, supportive manner.
  • Perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, squatting, and lifting.
  • Take responsibility for the health and safety of others.
  • Administer emergency care to members and guests in need of assistance.
  • Work as a TEAM with all other departments.
  • Be knowledgeable about all programs and activities offered throughout the center.
  • Promote center services and activities.
  • Assist with cleanliness and upkeep of group fitness equipment.
  • Attend Active Wellness site meetings and trainings.
  • Handle injury and illness and security incident reporting.
