About The Position

The Downers Grove Park District enriches our community through natural area preservation and exceptional recreation, parks, and facilities that inspire memorable experiences. With almost 600 acres of parks and facilities, there are thousands of opportunities for individuals of all ages and interests to grow, play, imagine and explore. As a Group Fitness Instructor, you will lead fitness classes to enhance participants’ overall fitness by designing and leading classes focused on aerobic activity, muscular strength, stretch, dance, yoga, or mind body programs. Most group exercise classes take place at 4500 Fitness. Occasionally, classes are run at various parks during the warmer months.

Requirements

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Must have or willing to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification within one month of employment.
  • Group Fitness related certifications; must maintain certification remain as active staff (certifications accepted, but not limited to: ACE, AFAA, NASM, Step, Pilates, Cycle, Zumba, Zumba Toning, TRX, Silver Sneakers, Pound, Yoga, Chair Yoga, Barre, etc.)
  • Proven experience in leading group fitness classes in various fitness disciplines
  • Knowledge of basic nutrition and the well-being of health/mind/body.
  • Experience in teaching the use of exercise equipment required.
  • Possess excellent teaching skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with participants and creative a positive, inclusive environment
  • High level of physical fitness and stamina to effectively demonstrate and lead classes

Responsibilities

  • Motivate and inspire participants to have a safe, fun, and effective fitness class experience.
  • Demonstrate exercises clearly and monitors participants to offer modifications as needed.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where participants feel connected and comfortable.
  • Keep accurate class attendance records.
  • Ensure that all fitness equipment is returned to its proper place at the end of each class. This includes shutting down all audio equipment and fans, and preparing the studio for the next class.
  • Responsible for finding a substitute instructor when unable to teach scheduled class.
  • Punctual and reliable to teach regularly scheduled classes while flexible to cover additional classed as needed.
  • Answer participants’ questions to support them in achieving their fitness journey.
  • Maintain up-to-date fitness certifications and stay informed about the latest fitness trends.
  • Attend all required department meetings and trainings.
  • Ensure all Park District’s safety policies are being followed and implemented.
