About The Position

We're looking for enthusiastic group fitness instructors to teach what they love — whether that's Zumba, yoga, HIIT, Pilates, strength training, dance, cycling, or another format entirely. If you're certified and passionate about helping people move, we want to hear from you. As a Group Fitness Instructor, you'll plan and lead energizing classes for members of all fitness levels, create a safe and welcoming environment, and be a visible part of our mission to strengthen the Kansas City community. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • National group fitness certification: ACE, AFAA, NCSM, or equivalent
  • Specialty format training: Zumba, YogaFit, RYT 200/500, Pilates, Les Mills, Piloxing, or similar
  • A warm, encouraging teaching style that connects with participants of all fitness levels
  • Ability to pass an audition with our fitness director — a friendly, low-pressure opportunity to show your teaching style

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead group exercise classes incorporating warm-ups, core activity, and cool-downs
  • Set up equipment before class and store it securely afterward
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere for members of all fitness levels
  • Track class attendance and note new or absent participants
  • Maintain safety in all classes following YMCA and national certification guidelines
  • Keep up with fitness trends and continuing education requirements
  • Communicate any safety concerns, equipment issues, or incidents to management promptly
  • Use provided microphone equipment during class
