About The Position

The Resource Investment Strategy organization is responsible for driving Microsoft resource allocation rigor across Microsoft’s portfolio. It is an exciting and fast-evolving team that partners deeply with engineering leaders to ensure $20B+ resources across ~100K engineering FTEs are continuously aligned to strategic engineering priorities. This role offers an opportunity to accelerate career development by understanding and driving the strategic importance of cost leadership, a core competency for future finance leaders. The role involves developing a CFO mindset, influencing senior leadership to drive expense management and resource allocation decisions, and aligning investments and costs with a prioritized engineering product roadmap. It also requires bringing fresh energy and innovation to solve complex problems in the new AI transformational age and building deep trusted relationships to collaborate across a wide variety of teams at Microsoft, including senior engineering leaders, Product Revenue and Margin teams, Central Finance Team, Global Workplace Services, Procurement, and Human Resources. The team is highly driven with an emphasis on fun. The position requires a motivated and agile system thinker who can demonstrate intellectual curiosity and navigate ambiguity and complexity to be the trusted finance advisor to our engineering leaders and drive success for our business partners.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 4+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 6+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to top Engineering and Finance leaders to drive operating leverage through resource allocation and investment optimization by giving visibility to the current resource landscape, analyzing macro-level results, and applying systems thinking to identify and recommend levers to influence decision-making.
  • Drive process excellence while partnering across Engineering and Finance to continuously assess the overall health of the business and understand key drivers to identify opportunities, risks, and tradeoffs. Ensure resources and investments are constantly aligned with business strategy, product engineering roadmaps, and company priorities.
  • Establish and leverage holistic analytical framework and best practices across Finance to spot and anticipate trends and deliver insights to unlock greater efficiencies for resource allocation and investment spend.
