About The Position

The Group Exercise Instructor (GXI) leads members through pre-arranged group exercise formats designed to improve overall fitness, strength, and endurance while maintaining participant safety. The instructor also educates members about fitness and reports directly to the Regional Fitness Programming Manager. Actual duties may vary slightly. Before class, the GXI arrives 10 to 15 minutes early to interact with members, answer questions, learn about their fitness progress and capabilities, and orient new participants. The instructor prepares appropriate music, checks equipment and microphones, and wears suitable fitness attire and footwear that meet the stated guidelines. The GXI may participate in events promoting class formats. After class, the GXI removes music, returns the microphone, prepares the room for the next class, answers participants’ questions, and solicits feedback. Additional duties include starting and ending classes promptly, following facility closing procedures when teaching the last class, arranging a qualified and approved substitute when unable to teach and notifying the Group Exercise Director (GXD) of substitute issues, attending required staff meetings, recording time correctly and promptly, preparing incident or witness reports as needed, and maintaining a positive, professional attitude.
