About The Position

Instructors are responsible for designing, educating, and instructing a group of participants of all fitness levels in a variety of group exercise formats. Temporary employment is of limited duration, and under the terms of NSU's benefits plan and policies, not eligible for company benefits.

Requirements

• Provides a fun and safe workout through one or more specialty group exercise classes.
• Educates participants concerning safe exercise techniques with ability to provide immediate modifications.
• Acquaints new participants with class procedures.
• Monitors proper form and technique using positive reinforcement.
• Promotes classes and assist in promotions and events.
• Obtains substitutes as needed.
• Maintains a desire for continuing technical improvement and continuing education.
• Excellent communication and motivational skills.
• Ability to recognize potentially harmful situations that may lead to injuries and take appropriate actions.
• A nationally recognized group exercise certification such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA, or CSCS.
• Current CPR certification.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Previous group exercise teaching experience.

Nice To Haves

• One (1) or more years of experience instructing group exercise.
• Fitness, exercise science, or health-related degree
• Previous experience in a University setting.
• Ability to teach multiple group exercise formats.

Responsibilities

• Instructors must possess current knowledge, certifications, and necessary specialized skills to provide a safe and effective group fitness class.
• Enjoys motivating and communicating with participants.
• Availability and flexibility to sub classes as needed.
• Arrives early to each class in order to properly prep, set-up and greet participants.
• Meets participants before and after class to answer questions.
• Records attendance numbers for each class.
• Reports and logs equipment in need of repair.
• Attends mandatory meetings every semester.
