About The Position

The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for delivering safe, engaging, and inclusive fitness experiences that support the health and well-being of the Loyola Marymount University community. Through quality instruction and participant engagement, instructors help create a welcoming environment that encourages movement, personal growth, and lifelong wellness.

Requirements

  • Current nationally recognized Group Fitness certification (ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, Yoga Alliance, or equivalent), or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain prior to employment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Strong group exercise instruction and coaching skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage diverse participant populations.
  • Excellent verbal communication and public speaking abilities.
  • Ability to create inclusive and welcoming fitness environments.
  • Ability to adapt workouts for varying fitness levels and participant needs.
  • Commitment to participant safety and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes.
  • Provide exercise modifications and progressions to accommodate varying fitness levels and abilities.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages participation and community.
  • Serve as a positive representative of FitWell and Loyola Marymount University.
  • Assist with special events, wellness initiatives, and promotional activities.
  • Collaborate with professional staff to support program growth and participant engagement.
  • Maintain current Group Fitness and CPR/AED certifications.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Exhibit behavior that supports the mission, vision, and values of the university.
  • Communicate and employ interpersonal actions that model high standards of professional, responsible, accountable, and ethical conduct.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to outstanding customer service.
