About The Position

CXM Group is seeking a Group Chief Compliance & Legal Officer to build and own the compliance architecture across six business lines and multiple jurisdictions simultaneously. The company is at a critical inflection point with multiple parallel licensing processes, including a Norwegian crypto exchange for MiCA passporting, a South African broker-dealer acquisition, a VARA application in the UAE, and prospective acquisitions in LATAM and Southeast Asia. This role is crucial for ensuring regulatory soundness during rapid expansion, integrating new entities without compliance exposure, and converting the licensing pipeline into durable operating authorisations across FX, CFDs, crypto, prediction markets, prop trading, and education. The ideal candidate will have experience operating across tier-one and emerging-market regimes and possess strong regulator-facing credibility.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated command of tier-one regimes (CySEC, FCA, NFA, ASIC) and offshore/emerging-market frameworks (UAE, Mauritius, Seychelles, SVG, Cambodia).
  • Working knowledge of MiCA and crypto licensing regimes globally.
  • Confidence and competence in direct regulator engagement — managing inquiries, coordinating responses, and representing the group's compliance posture with consistency across jurisdictions.
  • Ability to support acquisition structuring and entity integration from a compliance perspective — assessing regulatory exposure, coordinating with external counsel, and managing parallel licensing processes.
  • Experience deploying AI tooling in legal workflows — document retrieval, contract review acceleration, risk monitoring — or a concrete plan for rapid adoption and aptitude to execute.
  • Ability to set standards, delegate effectively, and hold a team accountable for throughput — running the contract and compliance function at scale without becoming the bottleneck.
  • Experience operating across tier-one and emerging-market regimes simultaneously.
  • Experience in multi-jurisdictional regulatory knowledge, typically built over a decade of work.
  • Experience in regulator-facing credibility, with confidence and competence in direct regulator engagement.
  • Experience in M&A and licensing fluency.
  • Experience in AI-enabled legal operations.
  • Experience in function leadership and SLA ownership.
  • Likely current job: Chief Compliance Officer (multi-jurisdictional broker or crypto exchange), Head of Compliance (tier-one regulated broker), Regulatory Affairs Director (fintech or crypto), M&A Compliance Lead (financial services), or Senior Legal Counsel / Head of Legal (retail broker or crypto exchange).

Nice To Haves

  • EU timezone alignment preferred for effective overlap with key offices.
  • Occasional travel may be required for regulator meetings and visits to regional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build and deploy a group-wide compliance reporting framework within the first three months, establishing structured reporting lines, cadences, and escalation paths for CEO and board visibility.
  • Create an AI-enabled legal document database within six months, delivering a searchable repository of all legal documentation for AI-assisted retrieval.
  • Establish and embed internal legal SLAs within the first three months, defining and operationalizing service-level agreements for contract reviews, drafting, and policy creation, with compliance tracking.
  • Deploy legal and compliance risk monitoring tools within six months across all business verticals and target markets.
  • Drive the live licensing and acquisition pipeline to defined milestones, including South African broker-dealer acquisition and VARA (UAE) licence by Q3 2026, MiCA passporting for the Norwegian crypto exchange by Q2 2027, and acquisition targets scoped by Q1 2027.
  • Oversee group-wide legal and compliance communications, ensuring consistency, appropriate escalation, and clear audit trails.
  • Monitor brand, regulatory, and compliance risk across all business verticals and target markets using dedicated tooling.
  • Conduct structured research on new and existing jurisdictions to track legislative developments, regulatory guidance, and enforcement trends.
  • Work cross-functionally with Operations and IT to design, implement, and maintain compliance reporting systems and dashboards.
  • Own the end-to-end legal document function: audit existing agreements, build and maintain the AI-enabled document repository, and ensure contracts are indexed and accessible.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulators across all jurisdictions, managing inquiries and dialogue.
  • Define and enforce SLA framework for internal legal workflows, including 24-hour standard contract reviews and 48-hour new contract drafting.
  • Handle high-stakes, novel, or regulator-facing agreements personally.

Benefits

  • Compensation is bespoke to the hire, competitive with the scope of the mandate.
  • Package will consist of base + bonus tied to hitting agreed KPIs.
  • Fully remote role.
  • Genuine architectural ownership across six asset classes and a dozen jurisdictions.
  • Direct line to the CEO with mandate authority.
  • Involvement in live deal pipeline (MiCA passporting, VARA in the UAE, South African broker-dealer acquisition, prospective acquisitions in LATAM and Southeast Asia).
  • First-mover opportunity in AI-enabled legal ops.
  • Group-level mandate, not a function-level seat.
  • No relocation, no commute.
  • Occasional travel when it matters.
