About The Position

This position is responsible for a variety of grounds maintenance tasks across the district. The role involves operating various equipment for tasks such as mowing, landscaping, snow removal, and athletic field maintenance. The Groundsworker will also be responsible for transporting items within and outside the district and performing routine maintenance tasks.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience in site maintenance work; OR Six (6) years of experience in site maintenance or grounds maintenance work; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience
Possession of a valid Class 3 New York State driver's license at the time of appointment
May be required to apply for a pesticide applicator's license at the time of appointment
Good knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of general grounds maintenance
Working knowledge of the methods used in propagating, planting, cultivating, pruning and general care of plants, flowers, shrubs and lawns
Working knowledge of the growth characteristics of flowers, plants and bulbs
Good knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in snow plowing and maintenance of roadways, paths, entrances and exits to buildings
Ability to get along well with others

Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Industry and dependability
Good judgement
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position

Nice To Haves

5 years of athletic field layout and maintenance
5 years of snow plowing experience
5 years of landscaping experience
CDL Class B Driver's License with air brake endorsement and clean driving record

Responsibilities

Transports various items both within and outside of the district
Lays out and marks athletic fields
Operates large lawn mowing equipment
Performs snow removal from parking lots and sidewalks
Performs landscaping tasks
Operates ground equipment and trucks
Performs a variety of grounds maintenance work, cutting grass and weeds, raking leaves
Plants, transplants, cultivates, prunes, sprays, and trims shrubs, bushes and trees
Assists in the maintenance and repair of all concrete and blacktop surfaces, including sidewalks, parking lots, roads, athletic fields and parks
Operates snow removal equipment and removes snow, salts and sands driveways, sidewalks
Performs routine tasks, handling of supplies, equipment, removal of rubbish, weeds grass and other debris
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
