About The Position

Haverhill Public Schools is seeking a Health Assistant to support the functions of the school health office across the district. This role involves promoting and maintaining the physical and emotional health of students and staff, monitoring students in medical waiting areas, escorting students, maintaining health records, and ensuring confidentiality. The Health Assistant will also support daily living activities for children and manage COVID pool testing. This position may require travel between multiple school settings.

Requirements

Current Massachusetts State Certified Nursing Assistant Certification preferred.
CPR certification.
Certificate/degree from a CNA program.
High School graduate or equivalent.
Must be able to function as a health services team member, prioritize, have good organization skills and be able to multitask.
Ability to use good judgment and exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others; ability to respect confidential matters.
Must have traits of resourcefulness, thoroughness, initiative, patience, courtesy, dependability, and enthusiasm.
Basic computer skills.
Must have transportation as the school day may be split between two or more settings.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience as CNA or Health Assistant preferred.
Prefer prior experience with children in a school or similar setting.

Responsibilities

Support the functions of the school health office.
Assist school nurse in promoting and maintaining optimal physical and emotional health of students and staff.
Monitor and support students in medical waiting areas until parent/guardian/emergency contact picks up child.
Escort students to and from the health office.
Maintain health records and document pertinent information.
Assist with data entry.
Maintain confidentiality of students' medical issues.
Support Activities of Daily living for all children.
Provide support at one or more schools.
Manage COVID pool testing in school/schools and support follow-up testing.
