About The Position

The Groundsworker supports the department’s grounds maintenance operations by operating a variety of equipment. The purpose of the position is to help maintain safe and well-maintained buildings and grounds. The work is typically performed outdoors and may involve cold or inclement weather. It includes standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping; lifting light and occasionally heavy objects; climbing ladders; and using tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, moving machinery, contagious or infectious diseases, and irritating chemicals. Protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves are required.

Requirements

Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties, usually associated with completing an apprenticeship or internship, or having held a similar position for one to two years.
Possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Newly hired employees must provide an original Social Security card during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

Assist with grounds maintenance, including mowing grass, cutting weeds, clearing brush, and raking leaves.
Plant trees, flowers, and shrubs, and trim trees and shrubs.
Collect litter from campus grounds and empty trash cans.
Move office furniture and assist with setup for special events.
Capture and relocate nuisance animals.
Apply herbicide and pesticide.
Operate equipment including a backhoe and dump truck.
Operate hand and power tools, including chain saws, weed eaters, and lawn mowers.
Clean up storm damage and assist with snow removal operations.
Load and unload trucks, and transport materials and equipment to work sites.
Provide support to other maintenance personnel.
Perform related duties as assigned.
