Groundsman - Planting Crew
About The Position
As a member of Moon Valley Nurseries’ Planting Crew, the Groundsman helps install trees and plants for customers. The role involves planting trees and shrubs according to landscape plans and specifications, using appropriate planting and fertilization techniques, and ensuring proper spacing and alignment. The employee also helps keep work areas and equipment clean and organized, coordinates with team members and supervisors, and supports on-time project completion. The Groundsman assists with loading and unloading plants, tools, and equipment, including checking counts and distributing weight appropriately. The employee must use required personal protective equipment and follow job-site safety protocols, including recognizing Blue Stake/811 utility-marking colors. Availability to work any day of the week is required. The work is active and outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather, and includes frequent lifting and moving of items weighing up to and over 75 pounds.
Requirements
- Ability to perform manual labor.
- Ability to follow specific instructions and safety protocols.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in conditions that may include rain, heat, sun, and wind.
- Ability to frequently reach, pull, lift, and/or move items weighing up to and over 75 pounds.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in landscaping, horticulture, or a related field.
- Previous experience operating power tools, hand tools, and other equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Plant trees, shrubs, and other plants according to landscape plans and specifications.
- Follow proper fertilization and planting techniques to promote healthy plant growth and longevity.
- Maintain clean work areas and equipment.
- Communicate with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and complete projects on time.
- Assist with loading and unloading plants, tools, and equipment; ensure accurate counts and proper weight distribution.
- Use required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.
- Recognize Blue Stake/811 colors at job sites and follow safety protocols to prevent damage to underground utilities.
- Be available to work any day of the week.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
