About The Position

The groundskeeper is responsible for managing the landscaping requirements of assigned areas by keeping the grounds clean of trash, debris, and anything else that could upset an otherwise orderly condition. This role involves maintaining campus vegetation, ensuring the cleanliness of grounds, preparing for seasonal changes, adhering to safety standards, treating vegetation, excavating for installations, removing debris, planting, and repairing tools and equipment. The position also requires supporting the university's mission and service excellence, responding to customer needs, and cooperating with colleagues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrated experience in the grounds industry, including considerable knowledge of common practices and related tools, equipment, and materials
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to execute multiple tasks according to specifications
  • Strong professional integrity and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to use good judgment and think critically

Responsibilities

  • Manages and maintains campus vegetation by mowing; pruning, trimming, and staking trees and shrubs; and detailing flowerbeds and other landscape elements
  • Maintains the cleanliness of campus grounds by removing trash, debris, and other refuse
  • Prepares grounds for seasonal climate changes by pruning trees/bushes and distributing fertilizer
  • Adheres to strict safety standards and practices
  • Treats vegetation for insects and removes weeds using pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals
  • Excavates holes and trenches for installation of lights, sprinklers, and other equipment
  • Removes debris from mulched areas and flowerbeds
  • Plants seeds, bulbs, flowers, shrubs, trees, and other vegetation in designated areas
  • Repairs and adjusts tools, machinery, and equipment
  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Responds to needs of customers in a timely and courteously manner
  • Assists with special events, including setup, event security, and cleanup
  • Cooperates with others towards achievement of common goals
  • Builds and maintains constructive work relationship with co-workers, supervisors and customers
