About The Position

The Groundskeeper plays a vital role in advancing the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay’s mission to enrich lives and strengthen communities by creating a safe, welcoming, and sustainable campus environment. This position maintains and enhances lawns, landscaped areas, athletic and common spaces, walkways, and roadways—helping ensure our campus reflects pride, care, and access for all who learn, work, and visit here. Guided by UW‑Green Bay’s strategic priorities, the Groundskeeper contributes directly to student success, community connection, and environmental stewardship while embodying our shared values to Advance Fearlessly, Build Community, and remember that Together, We Rise. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and caring for trees, shrubs, lawns, flowerbeds, and planting beds using a variety of vehicles and equipment; mowing, trimming, edging, seeding, sodding, mulching, and aerating turf; identifying and addressing plant diseases and insect issues; implementing fertilizer and chemical programs; and constructing landscaping projects through soil grading and planting. The Groundskeeper also ensures campus safety and accessibility through litter removal and year‑round grounds maintenance, including full participation in snow and ice removal operations. This role operates and helps maintain a wide range of equipment and collaborates closely with team members to support a clean, vibrant campus where everyone can thrive—while embracing challenges, empowering success, and expressing gratitude for the shared work of caring for our Green Bay community.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma at time of application
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year related experience
  • Knowledge of safe and proper operation and maintenance of lawn care and snow removal equipment
  • Knowledge of Landscape plant varieties and their care
  • Knowledge of planting bed and landscape construction

Responsibilities

  • Implements and monitors chemical and fertilizer programs
  • Installs, propagates, and maintains the health of new and existing plants and landscape using a variety of vehicles and equipment
  • Identifies and acts to remedy plant diseases and insect damage
  • Maintains clean and clear lawns, walkways, roadways, and parking lots to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • Constructs lawn and landscaping projects including soil grading, seeding, and sodding
