About The Position

The Groundskeeper role at UP Health System- Marquette, part of Lifepoint Health, involves preparing landscaping plans for all hospital-owned property, cultivating soil, planting seeds, bulbs, shrubbery, and trees to ensure an attractive appearance. Responsibilities include maintaining lawns, flower beds, pruning trees and shrubbery, mowing, operating and maintaining yard equipment, and inspecting plants for pests and diseases. The role also includes snow removal from sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and walkways, as well as collecting litter and sweeping/vacuuming leaves and refuse from grounds and paved areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
  • Previous Landscaping Experience Preferred
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares landscaping plans for all hospital owned property.
  • Makes recommendations for equipment purchase.
  • Prepares seeding by cultivating soil and adding fertilizers or chemicals; plants seeds and bulbs, shrubbery or trees so that resulting growth will provide an attractive appearance.
  • Scatters grass seed on bare spots on lawn or re-sods such areas; weeds and thins flower beds.
  • Prunes trees and shrubbery and trims hedges to promote growth and improve appearance.
  • Mows lawns with hand or power mowers; connects sprinkling equipment and waters lawns and flower beds.
  • Inspects flowers, trees and shrubs for evidence of insects, fungi or other pests and treats affected areas.
  • Makes minor adjustments, routine repairs and maintains yard equipment.
  • Shovels snow from sidewalks and cleans driveways, parking lots and walkways; spreads sand to prevent accidents.
  • Collects litter on grounds and paved areas; sweeps and vacuums leaves and refuse.
