About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to perform unskilled to semi-skilled work to maintain facilities, grounds, equipment, and rights-of-way in the City. This role involves adhering to safety procedures, performing litter control, landscaping duties, assisting with special projects, loading/unloading materials, and communicating with various stakeholders. The position requires operating various equipment and tools to complete assigned tasks.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Experience in manual labor work
Possession of a valid driver’s license
Knowledge of equipment operations
Knowledge of customer service principles
Skill in gathering information before taking action
Skill in using rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions
Skill in performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; counting; recording of counts; and basic measuring

Responsibilities

Adheres to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
Flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project/work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public.
Clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from sidewalks and rights of way.
Performs litter control of rights of way and beaches.
Prunes trees, spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, gravel or mulch.
Performs a variety of landscaping duties including mowing grass, planting flowers and shrubs, weed eating, edging curb lines, and clearing debris from park areas.
Spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, or mulch.
Sprays weed killer and fertilizer.
Prunes trees and shrubs.
Weeds flower beds.
Spreads grass seed.
Grooms ball fields.
Assists with special projects and seasonal work, including installing and removing holiday decorations and banners.
Clears streets and sidewalks of debris following special events.
Removes and replaces staging materials from sites as needed.
Loads and unloads materials, supplies and equipment as needed to complete assigned projects.
Reports all problems or necessary repairs to appropriate personnel immediately.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, work orders, logs, accident reports, or other documents.
Receives various forms, reports, work orders, application instructions or other documents; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Operates a variety of varied purpose equipment and tools right-of-way, landscape; operates a commercial-grade lawn mower, weed eater, chain saw, blower, shovel, rakes, pitchfork, pry bar or other equipment.
Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools, to complete essential functions.
Performs other related duties as assigned, requested and required.
