About The Position

Porter-Gaud School, an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school with 1,650 students, has an opening for a Groundskeeper in its Facilities Department. This position reports directly to the Grounds Manager and collaborates with other Facilities employees. It is a 12-month, full-time, non-exempt role with benefits. The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the school's grounds using various tools and equipment, and may also assist with special events, including setup and cleanup. Flexibility is crucial, as this role may require working during school closures, holidays, weekends, and extended hours, particularly in the summer. Availability to attend events across all three Porter-Gaud/O'Quinn campuses during and outside regular work hours is necessary.

Requirements

  • Must be able to follow directions.
  • Must be able to operate all landscaping equipment in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work efficiently and independently.
  • 2+ years experience in landscape maintenance or landscape construction.
  • Valid SC Driver's license and acceptable MVR.
  • High School Diploma preferred, but not required.
  • Frequently lifting 10-20 pounds, occasionally lifting 50 pounds.
  • Continuously demands vision, hearing, fine motor skills, and speaking.
  • Frequently sitting, standing, walking and carrying.
  • Occasionally bending, lifting, crouching and climbing.
  • Work is performed mostly outdoors with exposure to heat, humidity, and cold.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of all lawns, athletics fields, plantings, trees, and paved areas of the Porter-Gaud Campus.
  • Safe operation of all landscape maintenance equipment.
  • Compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
  • Compliance with all department rules as specified in the Employee Handbook.
  • Other duties as assigned by Grounds Manager, Plant Manager, and/or Director of Facilities.
  • Supporting special events by assisting with table and chair setups, erecting tents, and grounds maintenance after the event.
