About The Position

This is a full-time, 12-month annual, benefit-eligible, at-will, and non-exempt support staff position. The hourly rate of pay is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. The position involves maintaining lawns, trimming trees and shrubs, and providing snow removal for all campus properties. It may require late night, early morning, or holiday hours. The role also includes assisting with general campus landscaping, moving equipment, furniture, and materials, and working as a team under the direction of the lead grounds position. The groundskeeper will collaborate with maintenance personnel to support all campus entities. Additionally, the position requires punctuality, regular attendance, and successful completion of responsibilities, adhering to HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices. Serving actively on campus committees is also expected. Secondary responsibilities may include supervising summer and part-time help and performing other grounds and maintenance tasks as assigned by the Director of Facilities or Facilities Coordinators.

Requirements

  • Grounds keeping experience required.
  • A good driving record is required.
  • Must be neat, clean, and possess a positive attitude.
  • Must be willing to cooperate with colleagues of all agencies, and willing to work in different maintenance departments as needed.
  • Physical requirements include but are not limited to bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, and regular lifting up to 100 pounds; possess eye/hand/foot coordination sufficient to operate equipment, tools, etc.
  • Successful completion of a physical capacity and drug screen required.
  • Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
  • Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of turf, and tree and shrub maintenance preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ornamental flower production preferred.
  • Applicator’s license expected (HutchCC will provide this training opportunity).
  • Master Gardeners certificate expected (HutchCC will provide this training opportunity).
  • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain lawns, trim trees, and shrubs, as well as provide snow removal during the winter for all campus properties.
  • Assist with general campus landscaping.
  • Help move equipment, furniture, and materials.
  • Work as a team under the direction of the lead grounds position.
  • Work with maintenance personnel to support all campus entities.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
  • Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Serve actively on campus committees.
  • Supervise summer and part-time help as required.
  • Perform other responsibilities related to grounds and maintenance and as assigned by the Director of Facilities or Facilities Coordinators.
