About The Position

The Groundskeeper position at Furman University is responsible for maintaining the appearance of the golf course property, including grass, bunkers, shrubbery, flowers, trees, and general grounds. This role involves a variety of tasks related to groundskeeping and equipment maintenance, ensuring the property is well-kept and functional. The position requires adherence to safety procedures and open communication within the team.

Requirements

High School graduate with 1 – 2 years experience in a related field.
Ability to read and understand instructions for the use of machinery and chemicals.
Ability to calculate the amount of material needed/used for a task.
Valid South Carolina driver's license required.
Experience in the operations of grounds tools/equipment.

Responsibilities

Maintains the grass on the golf course property by mowing using various types of mowers, operating weed eaters, edgers, clippers, power pruners, and spreaders/tillers.
Waters grass using the irrigation system, dragging hoses, and sprinklers.
Performs aerifying and top-dressing of the grass.
Cleans up litter, limbs, and dead animals.
Applies pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides) and fertilizers (granular and liquid).
Cleans up leaves using sweepers, blowers, vacuums, hand rakes, and backpack blowers.
Changes holes on the course and practice greens, and changes tee markers.
Monitors frost and makes decisions regarding golf cart access.
Maintains bunkers by using riding rakes, hand rakes, and performing mechanical or chemical edging.
Restores bunkers after rains by shoveling sand and removing debris.
Maintains shrubbery, plants, trees, and flower beds by planting, watering, pruning, and weeding.
Removes shrubs, flowers, tree stumps, and trees using various equipment.
Maintains grounds equipment by washing mowers and tractors, sharpening blades, and checking fluid levels.
Repairs and maintains the irrigation system, including sprinkler heads, valves, pipes, and leaks.
Maintains other facilities such as ball washers, fountains, bathrooms, and the maintenance shop.
Clears snow from walks and the clubhouse parking lot as needed.
Follows safety procedures.
Completes performance review process with supervisor/employees.
Communicates openly and recognizes contributions of co-workers and supervisor.
Pursues professional development to keep pace with demands for services and information.
Performs various other duties as directed by the supervisor.
