Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Six months experience in turf maintenance, landscaping, or snow removal required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in required duties.
  • Illinois Pesticide Operators license required within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License required.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens training
  • Hazardous Communications training
  • Forklift /Scissor /Aerial Lift training
  • Electrical Safety training

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in grounds equipment repair preferred.
  • Illinois Pesticide Operators license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under immediate supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in all aspects of landscape maintenance including repair, demolition, construction, installation, and care of plants, trees, hardscapes, turf and related equipment.
  • Participates in tree, plant, and turf maintenance, installation and care.
  • Installs and maintains all types of pavers and hardscapes.
  • Uses landscaping industry standard equipment and tools to perform assigned duties.
  • Mows, trims, weeds and repairs turf grass.
  • Mixes and applies chemical herbicides and pesticides.
  • Participates in snow removal operations.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on college owned equipment and tools.
  • Coordinates daily work with end users, subcontractors, and other facilities staff.
  • Occasionally performs minor cement or asphalt patching on sidewalk and parking lots.
  • Erects regulatory and information signing.
  • Occasionally supports the work of building maintenance.
  • Occasionally maintains mowing and equipment maintenance records.
  • Assists in the irrigation system programming, maintenance and repair.
  • Assists in Athletic field Maintenance and field preparation for games.
  • Daily outdoor trash pickup and removal.
  • Daily creation and completion of work orders.
  • Occasionally supervises temporary worker and/or student workers.
  • Required to report to work during emergency conditions and may be assigned to report to college personnel at a different time and location and to perform different duties as necessary.
  • Annually responsible for 4 documented hours of continuous learning through seminars, classroom training or conferences.
  • Performs work safely in accordance with facilities department safety procedures, protocols and the College of DuPage safety program.
  • Completes college required training sessions.
  • Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
