About The Position

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) is seeking to hire an Intermittent Groundskeeper 1. This position will work up to 1,000 hours per fiscal year (July 1st - June 30th) and is responsible for performing routine, non-skilled grounds maintenance duties at the Tiffin Developmental Center. The role involves maintaining lawns, flower beds, shrubs, and grounds, as well as clearing snow and ice, and performing basic maintenance on grounds equipment. Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division.
  • In Department Of Natural Resources only, if assigned to operate vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of revised code, must also possess valid commercial drivers license.
  • In accordance with Section 124.11 (b)(2) of revised code, Director Of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination.
  • Equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Mows, trims, and edges lawns.
  • Applies mulch, weeds, and waters lawns and flower beds.
  • Trims shrubs.
  • Cleans grounds, sidewalks, and parking lots by removing paper and debris.
  • Clears walks, roads, and parking areas of ice, snow, and/or litter.
  • Applies ice-melt salt to walking surfaces in winter months as needed.
  • Performs routine maintenance of grounds equipment, such as painting, oiling, and sharpening.
  • Fertilizes lawns, trees, and shrubs.
  • Plants trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  • Sprays to control insects and disease as assigned.
  • Removes and disposes of animal carcasses.
  • Attends training events and meetings as assigned.
  • Keeps records.
  • Files incident reports.
  • Escalates groundskeeping-related issues as needed to the Building Maintenance Superintendent.
