About The Position

This position will work day shift up to 29 hours a week. The role involves maintaining the appearance of the driveway and DMVCC property, assisting with snow and ice removal, inspecting and treating plants for pests, planting and weeding flowerbeds, pruning trees and hedges, and connecting sprinkling equipment to water lawns and flowerbeds. The position also requires the use of all lawn equipment, pesticide application with record keeping, performing routine building checks, and maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas. Minor repairs to equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, sprinklers, and lawn mowers are expected, with major problems to be referred to the department Director. Additionally, the role includes drywall patch/repair, room painting, and making routine installations such as bulletin boards, light bulbs, electric cord ends, faucet valve seals, and window shades. Cleaning and servicing of air filters, plumbing traps, ice making machines, water fountains, roof drains, and spouts is also part of the duties. The position may require assisting in emergency declarations and performing other assigned duties within the Maintenance department's mission.

Requirements

Two years experience in general maintenance/grounds keeping.

Responsibilities

Maintain appearance of driveway and DMVCC property.
Assist in removal of snow and ice from walks, driveways and entrances by shoveling, salting, use of chemicals, snow blower and plow.
Inspect lawn, flowers, shrubs and trees for evidence of insects, fungi and other pests and take appropriate measures for effective control.
Plant seeds and bulbs, tree seeding and shrubbery.
Weed and thin flowerbeds.
Prune trees and trim hedges to advance growth or to improve their appearance.
Dig up and store bulbs and roots or mulch beds for protection and appearance.
Connect sprinkling equipment and water lawns, shrubbery and flowerbeds.
Use of all lawn equipment.
Pesticide application and maintain current and accurate pesticide application record and logs.
Record routine building checks.
Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in clean, safe and orderly condition.
Make repairs to equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, sprinklers, lawn mowers, etc.
Drywall patch/repair and room painting.
Make routine installations including but not limited to : bulletin boards, light bulbs, electric cord ends, faucet valve seals and window shades.
Clean, service, lubricate and repair minor malfunctions in: air filters, plumping traps (unplug drains), ice making machines, water fountains, roof drains, and spouts, and outside areas.
Clean air-handling rooms and other shop areas.
Performs other duties as may be assigned that are within the Maintenance department's mission and as situations warrant in meeting the overall needs of the facility.
May be required to assist agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
