About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and upkeep of grounds and facilities. Duties include evaluating work orders, operating various types of equipment, performing landscaping tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, and sod replacement. The role also involves collecting trash, maintaining playground equipment and buildings, removing graffiti, and performing routine maintenance on equipment. The selected candidate will be part of the Parks and Recreation Department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
  • A valid Georgia Commercial driver's License, including appropriate endorsements, is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates work orders and other forms of task assignment to understand what work is required; determines equipment and supplies required; executes required work; and completes applicable portions of the work order to record work done.
  • Uses a variety of lawn cutting equipment and machinery; mows, edges, and trims (using weed eater) grass; aerates lawns; cleans lawn areas using blower, pitch fork, broom, or water pressure; and replaces damaged sod as required.
  • Prunes trees using pole saw or chain saw; trims shrubbery using gas or electric trimmers, manual trimmers, lop-pers, or clippers; and bundles and disposes of resulting refuse appropriately.
  • Collects trash from park areas, including buildings; changes trash receptacle liners (bags); examines all areas for cleanliness and safety; and disposes of collected refuse properly.
  • Paints and maintains playground equipment and recreation buildings; removes graffiti, using sand blasting if needed; and inspects and reports any issues with equipment or buildings.
  • Operates light trucks, all-terrain vehicles, portable generators, woodchippers, lawn mowers, edgers, weed eaters, blowers, and other power or motorized equipment; provides routine maintenance of equipment; transports required equipment and supplies to work sites; and reports maintenance issues with equipment when detected.
