This position is responsible for the cultivation, maintenance, and promotion of plants, turf, or a plant collection in an assigned program or geographical area of the University. The position involves observing and diagnosing structural and horticultural problems. Key duties include the installation of new plant material according to plans and approved horticultural practices, and maintaining plant beds through pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, and spraying, which may include pesticides. The role encompasses a broad range of horticultural and landscape management tasks such as assisting in cultural activities, operating equipment, performing lawn and landscape renovations, landscape installations, and repairing irrigation systems. Additionally, the position contributes to landscape design and construction, arranging special foliage for events, seasonal color coordination, and promoting knowledge of plants. Specialized tools are used for cultivation, maintenance, and transportation of plants. During winter months, the position serves as a member of the snow and ice management team.
