About The Position

The Building & Grounds Technician maintains all aspects of the Buildings & Grounds/Land Management operations. The Facilities Operations team is committed to providing the employees and residents at Rockingham County a safe, supported, and environmentally conscious environment. The Building & Grounds Technician maintains the overall grounds of the County Complex including lawns, shrubs, trees, flowers, roads, parking lots, catch basins, drainage ditches, hay fields, and further, operates any related equipment. The Building & Grounds Technician also coordinates preventative maintenance programs for equipment including changing oil, changing filters, greasing equipment, and performing small engine repair. As part of our cohesive team in Facilities Operations, the Building & Grounds Technician is also cross-trained in other areas of Facilities Maintenance (particularly the Motor Services Division) and participates in rotating on-call maintenance for coverage purposes. Further, this position responds to emergency situations, such as snow removal, at the County Complex for up to 16 hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Two to five years of relevant experience.
  • A current, valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to operate a multitude of power and hand tools including, but not limited to, riding lawn mowers, push power mowers, string trimmers, chainsaws, circular saws, bench grinders, drills, tractors, back hoes, front-end loaders, and snow removal equipment including snowplows.
  • Mandatory post offer physical and drug testing for new hire.
  • Criminal records check required.
