About The Position

Entry-level role maintaining the grounds at cemetery or funeral home locations. Performs groundskeeping and maintenance to maintain the overall appearance of a cemetery, mausoleum, or funeral home and gains an understanding of cemetery operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 6 months of relevant experience in landscaping, general construction, warehouse work, or physical labor demonstrating steady employment.
• Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including a shovel, pick, rake, sledgehammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer, and leaf blower.
• Ability to accurately use measuring devices such as a tape measure or yardstick.
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
• Physical agility and dexterity.
• Ability to operate equipment safely and carefully.
• Ability to work effectively with others to accomplish tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively with associates, contractor personnel, and client families.
• Basic computer skills to retrieve and respond to email communications.

Nice To Haves

• Funeral industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Mow grass, plow snow, water lawns, fertilize and trim shrubs, tend flower beds, and inspect assigned work areas to ensure standards are maintained.
• Operate lawn and grounds equipment, including push and power mowers, snow blowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and related power equipment.
• Remove debris and trash from grounds, which may include turning down vases and removing wilted flowers.
• Participate on teams for openings and closings for interments, entombments, and inurnments.
• Assist in determining the location and layout of individual graves, following verification procedures.
• Perform minor repairs to cemetery, building systems, or equipment as needed.
• Under supervision, perform some cremation-related duties, such as maintaining inventory and complying with federal and state cremation regulations.
• Assist in moving and installing burial vaults.
• Follow safety rules and operating procedures, including corporate, federal, state, and local regulations, OSHA regulations, and Safety and Environmental guidelines.
