About The Position

The Grounds & Property Maintenance position is a hands-on, year-round role responsible for helping maintain El Western’s 16-acre property, landscaped grounds, cabins, equipment, tools, and general property infrastructure. Responsibilities change throughout the year based on the season and property needs. During our primary operating season, the position focuses heavily on landscaping, irrigation, groundskeeping, equipment operation, and day-to-day maintenance. During the winter and lower-occupancy season, the focus shifts to snow and debris removal, equipment and tool maintenance, seasonal weatherization, repairs, deferred maintenance, property improvements, and light construction projects. This position is ideal for someone who is dependable, mechanically inclined, takes pride in their work, and enjoys a variety of hands-on projects.

Requirements

  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Bend, squat, kneel, reach, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks
  • Remain active and on your feet throughout shifts
  • Work both indoors and outdoors
  • Work in varying Montana weather conditions
  • Move tools, equipment, supplies, furniture, and building materials
  • Safely operate landscaping, maintenance, and snow-removal equipment after appropriate training
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Mechanically inclined with an interest in maintenance and repair
  • Comfortable working with tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, property maintenance, construction, equipment operation, mechanical repair, or a similar hands-on role is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in every area is not expected. We value employees who are dependable, willing to learn, comfortable working with their hands, and able to take on a variety of responsibilities throughout the year.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain flower beds, shrubs, landscaped areas, and outdoor guest spaces
  • Mow, trim, edge, and maintain lawns
  • Set, move, and monitor hand-line irrigation throughout the property
  • Assist with planting, weeding, pruning, watering, and seasonal flower care
  • Maintain clean and attractive grounds and guest areas
  • Remove garbage, branches, debris, and other materials as needed
  • Assist with event and group setup, including moving tables, chairs, and equipment
  • Support general day-to-day property upkeep
  • Complete general property and cabin repairs
  • Identify and report maintenance concerns
  • Assist with preventative and deferred maintenance
  • Perform painting, staining, caulking, fencing, and similar projects
  • Assist with repairs and upkeep of decks, railings, walkways, outdoor structures, and other property features
  • Complete basic plumbing, carpentry, hardware, and repair projects as trained and able
  • Assist with furniture assembly, installation, and replacement
  • Support property improvement and light construction projects
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized maintenance and work areas
  • Clean, inspect, maintain, and organize property tools and equipment
  • Perform routine equipment servicing and preventative maintenance as trained
  • Identify damaged or worn tools, equipment, and parts
  • Complete basic repairs as trained and able
  • Maintain organized inventories of tools, parts, supplies, and maintenance materials
  • Prepare seasonal equipment for use and storage
  • Assist with maintaining landscaping, irrigation, snow-removal, and other property equipment
  • Snow removal and maintaining safe access around cabins, buildings, walkways, and guest areas
  • Debris and property cleanup as weather allows
  • Seasonal weatherization of cabins, buildings, equipment, irrigation systems, and other property assets
  • Winterizing and preparing seasonal equipment for storage
  • Preparing equipment and property systems for spring reopening
  • Tool, equipment, and machine maintenance and organization
  • Deep organization of maintenance areas, storage spaces, parts, and supplies
  • Cabin repairs and deferred maintenance
  • Preventative maintenance throughout cabins and property buildings
  • Interior and exterior repair and improvement projects
  • Painting, staining, caulking, trim work, and similar projects
  • Light construction and carpentry projects as trained and able
  • Assisting with property projects that are best completed during lower occupancy
  • Preparing cabins, grounds, equipment, and property systems for the upcoming operating season
