About The Position

Responsible for the cultivation and care of landscaping, grounds, and structures throughout the NSHC Campus. The role includes groundskeeping and building maintenance, seasonal outdoor work, routine equipment maintenance, and event setup. Employees are expected to uphold the organization’s vision, mission, and values and comply with its policies, procedures, code of conduct, and work rules. The position requires familiarity with weather conditions and hazards, the ability to operate heavy equipment or machinery, and the ability to work independently. Work is conducted mainly outdoors and in a standard clinical environment, with occasional exposure to confined spaces, noise, temperature extremes, inclement weather, and common maintenance-shop chemicals. Moderate travel is required, including travel by large and small aircraft.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Valid driver’s license.
Familiarity with weather conditions and hazards.
Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
Excellent communication skills.
Motivation to learn, volunteer, and help others.
Ability to operate heavy equipment or machinery.
Ability to follow policies, procedures, and instructions and communicate with supervisors.
Patient/customer service, interpersonal, communication, time-management, organizational, teamwork, and confidentiality skills.
General knowledge of typical office technology, including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and typical office software.

Responsibilities

Perform groundskeeping and building maintenance duties.
Cut overgrowth with hand tools, power tools, or a weed whacker; trim and edge around walks, piles, and walls.
Plant flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.
Apply pesticides to control pests such as mosquitos, wasps, and ticks.
Apply fertilizer to enhance growth.
Remove snow from walkways and ramps and apply ice melter to help prevent slips and falls.
Remove refuse from the grounds and sweep debris from walkways.
Ensure roof penetrations do not occur and that vents and drains function as designed.
Wash windows and the exteriors of the Main Hospital, QCC, and other buildings.
Perform routine maintenance, including applying plaster and fixing equipment.
Perform minor repairs and maintenance on groundskeeping equipment.
Rake, mulch, and prune grounds as needed.
Install rock, cement, lighting, water, and furniture.
Water plants and grass as needed.
Set up for All Staff meetings and other NSHC events.
Perform other duties as assigned.
