About The Position

Provide grounds maintenance support to Facilities Management. Grounds Maintenance includes but is not limited to: preparation, planting, mowing repair, replacement and renovation of ground covers, plants, shrubs, sidewalks, streets and lots; small tree removal and pruning; operation and maintenance of surface and sewer water systems as well as manual and computer based irrigation systems; use, operate, and maintain tools and equipment including tractors, mowers, snowplows, and material handling; operate and use moderate to heavy equipment in efficient safe manner; refuse and garbage maintenance; move and haul property as instructed; some limited brick and concrete work and maintenance of retaining walls; carry out all duties in safe and efficient manner consistent with University policies and procedures. Varying amount of after hour and special event hours as needed; perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Proven experience with and knowledge of grounds maintenance procedures
Previous experience with manual and power operated equipment including all types of mowers, edgers, chainsaws, etc.
Good comprehensive skills including ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions
Prior experience operating all related implements and equipment with agility and safety
Ability to work as a team and independently
Ability to operate forklift
Demonstrated good safety, attendance and work record
Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license
D.O.T. medium weight truck physical required
Selected candidate must become a member of the Teamsters, Chauffeurs and Helpers Local Union
Mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to tolerate constant or extreme noise
Ability to independently handle minimum 50 pounds
Visual ability to operate equipment effectively and safely
Hearing ability to hold conversations through earpiece and in person
Speaking ability to effectively communicate with other individuals
Ability to tolerate extreme temperatures while working outside
