Grounds Maintenance Worker I positions perform physically active and routine grounds maintenance and custodial tasks at recreation facilities, parks, golf courses and other public facilities. This role involves planting and replacing shrubs, flowers, turf, and trees. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining parks, golf courses, campgrounds, and recreational areas by removing weeds, debris, and trash. The job also requires driving a pick-up truck or other vehicle to job sites with equipment and supplies. Specific tasks include edging, watering, mowing, pruning, and trimming park landscapes and golf courses. Additionally, the role involves preparing golf course areas for play by setting cups on greens and placing tee markers, raking sand traps, and repairing divot holes while ensuring plugs are placed appropriately. Cleaning and maintaining buildings and other facilities, setting up facilities for various functions (meetings, dances, conferences, events), and removing graffiti are also part of the duties. Minor construction and maintenance work, such as placing and repairing benches and picnic tables, and performing daily inspections of assigned areas for safety hazards and reporting necessary corrections are expected. Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and comfort stations at parks, recreation centers, and/or golf courses are required. The role may also involve installing memorial markers and assisting in interment tasks at Mount Hope Cemetery. Other duties as assigned are also part of the scope of work.
