About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker 3, specifically for the Tree Crew within Facilities Management. This role involves performing a variety of landscape and garden duties, including planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding, and snow/ice removal. The position requires operating hand and power tools, mowers, trenching devices, forklifts, and hoists. Incumbents are expected to possess sufficient knowledge and proficiency to work independently with minimal training. A working knowledge of gardening, landscape methods, techniques, materials, and equipment is essential, as is familiarity with tools and methods used in grounds tree service work. The ability to safely operate a wide range of grounds maintenance tools and equipment is required, including power equipment like chain saws, stump grinders, limb chippers, and dump trucks. This position is specifically assigned to tree care and will adhere to ANSI Standards for tree care, pruning, fertilization, planting, and removal. Applicants must be willing to work at heights, climb trees, and learn proper knot tying for safety. The incumbent will be required to acquire and meet standards for tree safety, tree rescue, and herbicide/fertilizer application. A valid State of Nevada Driver's license is mandatory, and employees must obtain forklift operator and man lift operator licenses within 11 months of hire and maintain them throughout employment. The standard work schedule is 6:00 am – 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, though this schedule may be adjusted as needed by the University.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Nevada Driver's license.
  • Must obtain forklift operator and man lift operator licenses by 11 month evaluation of hire and maintain throughout employment with the University.

Responsibilities
