About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker 3, specifically for the Tree Crew within Facilities Management. This role involves performing a variety of landscape and garden duties, including planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding, and snow/ice removal. The position requires operating hand and power tools, mowers, trenching devices, forklifts, and hoists. Incumbents are expected to possess sufficient knowledge and proficiency to work independently. A working knowledge of gardening, landscape methods, techniques, materials, and equipment is necessary, as well as familiarity with tools and materials used in grounds tree service work. The role involves the safe and proper operation of various grounds maintenance tools and equipment, including chain saws, stump grinders, limb chippers, and dump trucks. This position is specifically assigned to tree care and will adhere to ANSI Standards for pruning, fertilization, planting, and removal. Applicants must be willing to work at heights, climb trees, and learn proper knot tying for safety. The incumbent will be required to gain knowledge of tree safety, tree rescue, and herbicide/fertilizer application. A valid State of Nevada Driver’s license is mandatory, and employees must obtain forklift and man lift operator licenses within 11 months of hire. The standard work schedule is 6:00 am – 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, though this may be adjusted as needed by the University.

  • Willingness to work above ground and climb trees at precarious heights.
  • Willingness to learn proper knot tying for safety.
  • Required to acquire and meet standards regarding knowledge of tree safety, tree rescue, and herbicide and fertilizer application.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Nevada Driver’s license.
  • Must obtain forklift operator and man lift operator licenses by 11 month evaluation of hire and maintain throughout employment with the University.
  • A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition for continuing employment.
