About The Position

The St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School Buildings and Grounds Department is seeking a dedicated and proactive Grounds Maintenance Technician to join the Buildings and Grounds team at one of our three campus locations (Lower School, Middle School, or Upper School) in Alexandria, Virginia. Reporting directly to the B&G Campus Supervisor, the Grounds Maintenance Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the overall grounds maintenance and repair operations are executed efficiently and effectively, ensuring that our school's facilities are safe and functional at all times.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of lawn care and snow removal maintenance.
  • Ability to operate and maintain specialized grounds equipment.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) and ability to communicate effectively with individuals at varying levels.
  • Proficient with computers and relevant software applications needed to complete reports, logs, and inventory.
  • Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least two years of grounds care maintenance experience is required.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Must be able to stand and walk extensive campus properties for prolonged periods of time and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must be physically able to operate required equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled tasks including mowing, lawn edging, weed eating, edge trimming, plants shrubs/trees, fertilizes campus turf, grooms synthetic turf, and snow removal when necessary.
  • Operate specialized machinery (e.g., tractors, mowers, blowers) and perform preventative maintenance on tools.
  • Cleans parking lots and walkways (sweeping/blowing with hand tools and/or motorized equipment).
  • Performs general cleaning tasks (e.g. removal of exterior trash and recycling) and removes litter on campus.
  • Proactively evaluates grounds to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed.
  • Reviews campus online work orders submitted in the work order management system (FMX) for preventative maintenance, daily maintenance and event requests.
  • Ensures maintenance and grounds work is completed safely, effectively, and in a timely manner.
  • Assists with event set up and breakdowns of tables, chairs and tents in collaboration with other school departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
