Grounds & Maintenance Technician

At GEI, the Grounds & Maintenance team helps ensure our properties are cared for, operational, and ready to support the many ministries, events, and activities that take place each day. We are seeking a hardworking and dependable individual who enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in maintaining quality spaces, and is ready to contribute wherever needed. The Grounds & Maintenance position is responsible for assisting with the upkeep, appearance, and general maintenance of the organization's grounds and facilities. This position performs routine landscaping, groundskeeping, general repairs, preventive maintenance, and facility support to help ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors. This is a casual position working up to 29 hours per week based on the needs of the organization. The position requires dependability, attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a commitment to providing excellent service.
Requirements
- Ability to safely operate groundskeeping and maintenance equipment.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent is desirable.
- Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, general maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- Basic knowledge of landscaping, building maintenance, hand tools, and power tools is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Trim and maintain shrubs, bushes, trees, flower beds, and other landscaped areas as needed.
- Assist with planting, watering, and maintaining flowers, plants, trees, and other landscaping.
- Maintain sidewalks, parking areas, entrances, and other exterior spaces to ensure they remain clean, presentable, and free of hazards.
- Operate landscaping and groundskeeping equipment, including, weed eaters, blowers, trimmers, and other hand and power tools.
- Inspect grounds and facilities regularly and report safety hazards, damage, or maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Perform general building maintenance and minor repairs, including painting, patching, basic carpentry, and replacing fixtures or hardware as needed.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools, equipment, and facility components as assigned.
- Maintain tools, equipment, maintenance areas, and storage spaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and guidelines, including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the safe operation of tools and equipment.
- Respond to maintenance requests and assigned projects in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide professional and courteous service when interacting with staff, volunteers, visitors, vendors, and other members of the community.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the ministry and its objectives.
