About The Position

This is a full-time staff position at Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC. The role involves maintaining the university grounds, including planting, weeding, mulching, watering, mowing, trimming, and ensuring the grounds are free of litter and debris. The position also includes tent setups and requires the ability to lift and move objects weighing approximately 50 pounds. The technician will use hand and power tools and will frequently bend, kneel, lift, and shovel. Weekend work is required.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Proper weeding, trimming, pruning, and fertilizing of plants and shrubbery.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to general maintenance and horticultural activities.
  • Ability to properly care for assigned areas and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, lift, and shovel.
  • Ability to lift/move heavy equipment and objects as needed.
  • Ability to properly use and care for hand and power tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong grounds or horticultural experience.
  • Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Responsibilities

  • Planting, weeding, mulching, watering, and caring for plants and shrubbery on university grounds.
  • Mowing maintaining lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, turf, and irrigation.
  • Trimming hedges, trees, and shrubs.
  • Preventing and eliminating weeds.
  • Maintaining university grounds by keeping them free from trash, litter, and debris.
  • Tent setups.
  • Lifting/moving objects and equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds as needed.
  • Using hand and power tools as needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and shoveling.
