About The Position

Multiple shifts are available for this position, which starts at $15 an hour. Applicants without a resume will be able to skip the resume upload option. The role involves maintaining zoo grounds, assisting with special events, and ensuring the safety of visitors and animals.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record required.
  • New-Hire TB testing required.
  • Able to climb ladders and work in high and/or enclosed spaces.
  • Able to operate motorized equipment.
  • Able to perform heavy physical work for extended periods of time.
  • Able to balance multiple assignments successfully.
  • Able to work in varied weather conditions (i.e. extreme heat, rain).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the Make it G.R.E.A.T. standards required.
  • Able to maintain courteous and helpful behavior.
  • Able to maintain appropriate employee appearance (see uniform guidelines in the employee handbook).
  • Availability on weekends and holidays is mandatory.
  • Subject to BMV check/Drug Free Workplace Policy/Criminal Background check.

  • Maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains Zoo grounds (e.g. picks up litter/manure and cleans tables/benches/restrooms/walkways).
  • Hangs and takes down light strands and shapes, which create special effects for nighttime events (e.g. Wildlights, Zoofari).
  • Assists with special maintenance projects (painting, fence repair, bench repair, snow shoveling, general repairs).
  • Sets up and takes down tables/chairs/tents for special events and performs administrative office duties.
  • Provides support for all special events (e.g. Zoofari/Jazzoo).
  • Maintains shop area and equipment (e.g. washing, routine maintenance).
  • Assures safety of self, the collection, staff and visitors through proper safety training and techniques around the animals, equipment and vehicles.
  • Interacts with guests (e.g. answers questions, gives directions).
  • Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
