About The Position
The Grounds Laborer is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety, and cleanliness of city-owned properties, including parks, medians, facilities, and public spaces. This position performs a variety of manual labor tasks related to landscaping, grounds maintenance, and general upkeep.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance practices
- Ability to operate small equipment and hand tools safely
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
- Strong work ethic and reliability
Responsibilities
- Mow, edge, and trim grass in parks, rights-of-way, and other municipal areas
- Plant, water, prune, and maintain trees, shrubs, and flower beds
- Remove litter, debris, and illegal dumping from city properties
- Operate and maintain hand tools and power equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers)
- Assist with irrigation system maintenance and minor repairs
- Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment
- Perform seasonal duties such as leaf removal and storm cleanup
- Assist with setup and breakdown of city events or public activities
- Report hazards, vandalism, or maintenance issues to supervisors
- Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
