About The Position

This role is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of hospital grounds, building exteriors, and related areas. The Grounds Keeper will perform a variety of tasks including grounds maintenance, snow and ice removal, equipment maintenance, inventory management, and assisting with building maintenance as needed. The position requires a proactive approach to ensure the highest level of facility maintenance and customer satisfaction, while adhering to all safety, health, and sanitation regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be able to balance grounds duties and building maintenance duties.
  • Must be knowledgeable in salts, sand, and chemicals used to treat and remove snow and ice.
  • Must be able to complete task and preventative maintenance requests in the Facility Fit Pro Work Order system.
  • Must maintain current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Must practice and reflect knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Must complete all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Must be knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs regarding fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • Must bring any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.
  • Must take appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

  • Assist carpenter when in times of need and when not doing grounds duties.
  • Has authority to call in contracted snow removal, and additional staff help to clear and treat as needed and during times of heavy weather.
  • Participate on hospital committees and serve as a consultant to other departments as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of exterior entrances, hospital grounds, building exteriors, and roof areas by removing trash and debris.
  • Perform seasonal debris removal, including leaves, animal/bird debris, mud, and dust.
  • Remove snow and ice from entrances, parking lots, and sidewalks, using sand and ice melt as directed.
  • Perform turf maintenance, including aeration, spraying, fertilizing, mowing, and trimming.
  • Plant, maintain, water, and prune ornamentals; weed gardens and rock areas; and mulch beds.
  • Operate and repair fountains as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and supplies, tracking usage to ensure correct ordering for seasonal needs.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment and tools for proper functioning and wear, keeping them organized.
  • Perform routine maintenance on mowers and equipment, including oil changes, blade sharpening, repairs, and seasonal preparation.
  • Maintain records, reports, statistics, and budgetary information.
  • Evaluate and justify department needs and purchases related to grounds and equipment, and direct storage of supplies.
  • Perform utility and project work, such as painting, project cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager with contract negotiations for grounds and snow/ice removal.
  • Complete task and preventative maintenance requests in the Facility Fit Pro Work Order system.
  • Assist carpentry staff with duties such as furniture moving, painting, and basic carpentry repair work when grounds duties are not pressing.
  • Oversee the snow removal program, including knowledge of salts, sand, and chemicals, and authorize contracted snow removal and additional staff as needed during heavy weather.
  • Balance grounds duties and building maintenance duties to ensure the facility is maintained at the highest possible level.
  • Maintain the hospital vehicle fleet, including regular scheduled maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Ensure all safety, health, and sanitation regulations are met.
  • Maintain records on plants, repairs, and supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with all established standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate, conduct, and report time studies as needed.
  • Attend department meetings and actively participate in team-oriented decision-making.
  • Maintain hospital and department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Participate on hospital committees and serve as a consultant to other departments.
  • Develop a proactive mindset, identify opportunities for improvement, communicate ideas, and implement changes for continuous quality improvement.
