About The Position

This role is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the hospital grounds, building exteriors, and related areas. The Grounds Keeper will perform a variety of tasks including landscaping, snow removal, equipment maintenance, and assisting with general building maintenance. The position requires a proactive approach to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while adhering to all hospital policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs regarding fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • Must be able to balance grounds duties and building maintenance duties.
  • Knowledge in salts, sand, and chemicals used to treat and remove snow and ice.

  • Assist carpenter when in times of need and when not doing grounds duties.
  • Will be required to complete task and preventative maintenance requests in the Facility Fit Pro Work Order system.
  • As required may coordinate, conduct, and report time studies as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Keep and maintain all exterior entrances clean daily, including removal of trash and seasonal debris.
  • Keep hospital grounds, building exteriors, and roof areas clean and free of trash and debris.
  • Remove snow and ice from entrances, parking lots, and sidewalks, using sand and ice melt as directed.
  • Perform turf maintenance including aerating, spraying, fertilizing, mowing, and trimming.
  • Plant, maintain, water, and prune ornamentals; weed gardens and mulch beds.
  • Operate and repair fountains as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and supplies for groundskeeping tasks.
  • Inspect and maintain groundskeeping equipment and tools for proper functioning and wear.
  • Perform routine maintenance on mowers and equipment, including oil changes, blade sharpening, and repairs.
  • Maintain records, reports, statistics, and budgetary information related to groundskeeping.
  • Evaluate and justify department needs and purchases for grounds and equipment.
  • Direct storage of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform utility and project work such as painting, project cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Assist Maintenance Manager with contract negotiations for grounds and snow/ice removal.
  • Complete task and preventative maintenance requests in the Facility Fit Pro Work Order system.
  • Assist carpenter with duties such as furniture moving, painting, and basic carpentry repair work when needed.
  • Manage the snow removal program, including knowledge of treatment materials and authority to call in contracted services and additional staff.
  • Balance grounds duties and building maintenance duties to ensure the facility is maintained at the highest level.
  • Maintain the hospital vehicle fleet, including regular scheduled maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Assure all safety, health, and sanitation regulations are met.
  • Maintain and keep records on plants, repairs, and supplies.
  • Assure compliance with all other established standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate, conduct, and report time studies as needed.
  • Attend department meetings as scheduled.
