About The Position

Quality Staffing, Inc., also doing business as Goddard Mason Executive Search, a leading full-service employment agency matching qualified talent with some of the area's top companies, is seeking an experienced Grounds Keeper/Maintenance to work through our agency as a contract employee with the State of Tennessee School for the Blind (TN TSB) located in Nashville, TN. This is an on-site position working from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. The pay rate for this position is $21.50 per hour.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Experience equivalent to one year of full-time labor and trades work including some routine grounds maintenance work.
  • General knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in general grounds and/or maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions applicable to operating grounds and/or maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  • Valid Tennessee driver's license.
  • Must submit to and pass a TBI/FBI background check and fingerprinting, to include Tennessee and Federal criminal history checks, child abuse records, employment verification, and professional/personal reference checks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of campus grounds and landscapes.
  • Operate electrically powered and gasoline powered groundskeeping equipment and machines.
  • Use small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping.
  • Perform maintenance on groundskeeping equipment and tools.
  • Change light bulbs, pressure wash surfaces, paint walls, woodwork, furniture and equipment.
  • Make minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Deliver supplies, materials and equipment as needed.
  • Mow lawns and trim grass around walks, flower beds and walls.
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth.
  • Remove damaged leaves, branches, and twigs using mowers, tractors, and other hand and power tools.
  • Collect and dispose of outside trash and garbage.
  • Provide proper upkeep of hard surfaces, storm drains, and other ground features.
  • Lay out and tend flower beds and other decorative vegetation.
  • Plant, fertilize, water and use herbicides and insecticides to maintain grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  • Remove snow and ice from walks and driveways.
  • Spread salt, pick up litter, rake, and remove leaves from campus.
  • Maintain driveways and parking lots.
  • Repair fences, gates, walls, irrigation systems, walks and outbuildings using carpentry, masonry, pressure washers, and painting tools.
  • Operate trucks and tractors in grounds preparation and maintenance work.
  • Assist with maintenance and repairs of equipment, all buildings, structures and grounds.
  • Assist with plumbing, masonry, carpentry, painting, and minor electrical work.
  • Arrange facilities for special events and check for safety hazards.
  • Attend training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Comply with all campus safety policies and procedures.
  • Apply all applicable OSHA and related safety requirements to all assigned work.
  • Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Perform related tasks as required.
